Gary 'Smiler' Turner, although best known for his K1 crusade and as a kickboxer, has also a clear background in ju-jitsu and techniques from karate. To put himself to a further (!) test, he will compete against 32 competitors under Traditional Karate rules in the

10k Karate Challenge!

32 fighters, enter, they get wittled down to the winner, who walks off with a cool £10,000! The event is taking place in London, will be televised, and further releases and press coverage will keep you informed!

K1 LAS VEGAS 2003

Gary 'Smiler' Turner was entered at short notice to the 8 man tournament, but fell foul of the Nevada State Commission's tight controls on eyesight - after passing blood tests, MRI brain scans, dope tests, physical and eye examinations, her fell foul of the stringent test for sight! Unfortunately, being short sighted, he didn't meet the minimum standard set by Nevada. Therefore he was not allowed to compete.

A shame, because Gary feels he would have beaten his first round opponent and progressed nicely through the tournament. Instead he gained valuable experience watching, contacts and reinforced relationships with the other fighters, trainers, managers, promoters, the K1 Corporation.....not a wasted journey!

And he had the opportunity to get some photos with some of sport's greatest.......
