I am a PhD candidate in the English Literature/Women's Studies collaborative programme at the University of Toronto. For my dissertation I intend to explore constructions of hysteria in late 19C literature, reading such narrative constructions against accounts of the disorder in medical manuscripts from the same period. I am especially interested in exploring the asymmetrical power-relations that governed doctor/patient relationships in Victorian England. I would locate my research interests at the intersection of the history of sexuality, gender issues, and 19C women's writing.
