When it was decided to build a tourer model in 1947, it was necessary to obtain a pattern due to Rover losing its drawings in the bombings. So Rover repurchased a 1934 model Sports Tourer. This re-purchase by Rover has also been recorded in the book "The Classic Rovers" by James Young.
When Rover owned it they changed the wheels from 18" to 17" wires, fitted twin horns, a centre mounted spot light and the later non damped front bumper bar.
It went to New Zealand in 1961 then was taken to Australia and toured the eastern side of the country before returning to NZ in about 1964. It is now owned by Mr Richard Topliss who continues the story:
"In 1994 I commenced a complete "ground up" restoration in which nothing was untouched this being completed early 1996 in time for the 50th anniversary rally of the New Zealand Vintage Car Club at which after 1500 miles of rallying we won the concourse for Post Vintage vehicles (1932 - 1945).
I still have the original UK number plate JN 4364, which was issued in Southend on Sea on 12 May 1934 to an H.A.Mowle of Leigh on Sea."
Richard has kindly sent the photos below which show the first class condition the car is in today.
